Published 05 February

This February it’s the month of love at Grand Central! With Valentine’s Day lingering in our minds we are celebrating with romantic stories (and even the odd meet-cute) about couples who work in the centre.

Valentine’s Day is named after Saint Valentine and there are many stories around the legend that we know today. Valentine’s Day in modern times is a festival which is celebrated in many countries and is observed as a day of expressing love between family and friends. Others use Valentine’s Day as a romantic occasion to exchange gifts to express their admiration towards someone they cherish.

In 2020, Valentine’s Day isn’t just for lovers with non- traditional celebrations such as puppy-tine or Galentine happening worldwide. So even if you don’t have that someone special in your life it doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate the day with cake, champagne and a couple of your close girlfriends, or give your favourite pooch a new toy to mark the occasion.

If you are all about the love then read on and enjoy meeting some very sweet couples who show us that love is all around.

Geordy & Rehannan – Theo’s Bakery

Geordy & Rehannan are the classic case of high school sweethearts and have been together ever since. The couple have been married for 16 years and celebrate their anniversary every Valentine’s Day (Geordy has never forgotten the date!). They opened their second bakery in Grand Central in 2018 to the satisfaction of bakery treat lovers throughout Toowoomba. In their down time they enjoy watching Netflix and taking their three children aged twelve, nine and two on weekend adventures. Geordy also has a passion for cars and works on his Torana between watching the football.

Penny & James – The Coffee Emporium

This new relationship blossomed from their mutual passion and love for hospitality. Meeting in Chinchilla where they both held jobs in restaurants, together they decided to make the move to Toowoomba last year and purchase The Coffee Emporium. The couple shares a mutual desire to brighten their customers day and share delicious brewed coffee with their regular customers and the Toowoomba community. Outside of their busy work days (they work 7 days a week!) James enjoys a bit of gaming and Penny enjoys relaxing and a well earn rest after a long day.

Melissa & David – Dusk & Security

Long serving Security officer David met Melissa 5 years ago when she used to brew his daily coffees. He hinted that if she ever needed gardening help to call him (Now that’s a great pick up line!). These lovebirds are happily engaged but aren’t in a hurry to tie the knot, they are simply appreciating their time together. On weekends they like watching movies, walking their dogs and drinking coffee together. They even test out their culinary skills in the kitchen. Melissa now works at Dusk selling aromatic candles to customers wanting to spoil their loved ones while David continues his hard work in Security.

Trying to decide on the perfect gift for your loved one? Melissa can help you find that perfect gift to lift the atmosphere in any room of the house. Visit Dusk on Level 2 near Telstra.

From Grandy to you, celebrate your own way this Valentine's Day. Lots of cake and champagne will make any day!
